The earlier, the better, especially for female-sex children, as they tend to go through puberty earlier than male-sex. It's horrid to go through the wrong puberty, and even if all you do is push puberty back a few years to make sure the idea is solidified and they know what they are (rather than do the full transition), along with all the hardships that will come with it, then it's a good thing. NOT pushing puberty back is making a decision as much as pushing it back is, only you're deciding for them, saying "You are this, not what you think you are," instead of them saying "I think I am this, give me time to be sure."
