Not unless you were one of the people that hated unit stacking with such great passion that you're willing to accept combat becoming tactical exercises with groups of 1-5 units. IMO, at least, some things were improved and some things were worsened. Also, resources are super-common. I still remember how in III there might only be one or two sources of rubber/oil/whatever in a massive world and they could just disappear at any time.

If it wasn't obvious, I really don't like the idea of "fixing" AI doomstacking by removing stacking altogether.

I would rather the one-unit-per-tile be a mite bit more lenient. Like, allow more than one, but with a malus for the additional ones and a limit of, say, 4 or 5.

The other alternative is to make the tiles smaller, and have the cities take up more than 1 tile. Kind of like a central tile with 6 tiles around it in a hexagon.

doomstacking could be fucked over like it was in the original civ: destroying one unit kills the whole stack under it

Also I don't like how Civ V removes any sort of importance as to where you settle a city.
In Civ V the only difference between tiles is what you get from them. No waterborne diseases or anything.

Quick synopsis:

Some gamers are playing Dark Heresy. They have followed a trail of breadcrumbs, with an unknown force saving their bacon and doing them favors. They are deep in the Hive after ten sessions of playing, hot on the trail of some heresy. Suddenly, out from the shadows steps: a furry. He monologues for a while and says that he is the last of his race, and he is dying. Chief Arbiter says "Correction: dead." and opens fire. They kill the beast. The GM ragequits.

The next week we find out the DM was a closet furry and this was his way of coming out to us, and that DMPC was his avatar. I guess we should have realized it was important when he described every detail of his musclebound dog man for about 5 minutes. Oh well. Suffer not the mutant. . .

Anyway, the GM later invites them to his next game, saying that it is 'super serious' and closed to people who aren't 'serious role-players'. Then they find out it is going to be full of furries playing furries with ridiculously OP gear, with the GM butchering the entire canon to put a furry race behind everything. The first gamers decide to get even.
