Out of pure curiosity I've decided to try out Harpoon: Commander's Edition.
The backstory of some near-future scenarios, which originally appeared in "Harpoon Classic '97" (released in, emh, 1997) is ridiculously hilarious.

One scenario features the European Union (still called the European Community) led by France and including Russia breaking all diplomatic ties with the United States in protest of American punitive strike on Libya and starting a peace enforcement operation against American forces involved in the operation both in mainland Europe and in the Mediterranean Sea. Another scenario features a UN-backed Russian preemptive attack on Norway after British commandos intercepted a shipment of American chemical weapons being smuggled into the country.

It makes as much sense as an anti-American Arab-Israeli alliance going to war with America in defence of Afghanistan.

Fifty years into the future, that's not completely unrealistic (minus the France and WWIII bits): A modernized, democratic Russia could in principle join the EU, and a significant worsening in America-EU relationships is quite probable after the EU has become a superpower (and China has become saturated).

Huh. Even right now I'm eating a whole box of tomatoes, so maybe I've just developed a habit of eating a lot.

See, I'm not overly skinny, but I'm slightly skinny. And yet, I eat more than the rest of the family combined. On days out to Chinese Restaurants, I eat my own, a nice big portion. I eat most of the prawn crackers. My aunt always only gets half of hers done, so I eat hers. My sister eats most of her stuff, but leaves nearly all the rice. I get that. Then there's pudding-Heated chocolate cake with ice cream, most of the time, and hot chocolate with cream to go with it. And that's all in one sitting, and whilst pleasantly full afterwards, I could still eat more.

Another example is when I went on holiday, sat down and ordered a mix of everything. There were tomatoes, mushrooms, chicken, gammon, steak, and I think lamb, bowl of chips, side salad and then dessert which was icecream with chocolate sauce and heated brownies in it.

I swear, I love food. When my metabolism slows, I'm screwed.

True, I think Russia could do with some European culture~ At least the European ideals of "Live and let-live" on a personal basis. Among other things... Like secularism. Or... human rights in general. Democracy... An economy centered around more than just oil (hell, green economy in general would do wonders, it's a very beautiful landscape, it'd be a shame to turn it to ash)

A Russia-EU union seems unlikely. Sure, there'll be some cooperation, as there already is, but a full economical Union seems quite unlikely, even in the future.

Then it wasn't secular.

Because "secular" means "Religion doesn't have an impact on policy/the state, the state doesn't have an impact on religion."

Admittedly I'd prefer to tax the churches, but that's the extent of what I'd like. I'd even go so far as to give an exemption to churches that aren't "Mega-church" level of obscene wealth, because I think the majority of churches are fairly low-income.

While state atheism tends to mean "The state tries to stamp out religion," which is bad, because see: human rights.
