There was a thing I was reading about tattoos (I can't remember where, sadly) that was talking about how people get them to be different. But, seeing as such a vast number of people are getting tattoos, it becomes a sign of conformity.

Unless you get the same tattoos as someone else, that's really not the case.
Having skin is a sign of conformity, but I'm not about to flay myself in the hopes of looking like an individual.

if i got any kind of tattoo it'd be to cover the scars on my back

i have an irrational dislike of tattoos which thankfully does not translate to the people they're attached to

or maybe it does, it's not like i like many people

The ONLY reason I might not get a tattoo (above the neck) would be because scientists and engineers [management/employers] are notoriously conservative in dress-code. And even then, it's only above the neck that I would contemplate not-getting, because anything below the neck would be covered by any dress-code that such a person would put in place (sleeved shirts and collars, pants to the ankles)

Edit: I would be insanely surprised to hear that the stereotypes of people with tattoos/get tattoos are at ANY scale correct, including the idea that people get tattoos to be "non-conformist". ESPECIALLY with tattoos and sub-culture, but pretty much in any case when it's a piece of "common knowledge and/or sense" about something? I pretty much believe the exact opposite if there isn't any proof either way. They're almost invariably insanely, laughable wrong.

I think that there are a few select cases where they look dumb, but overall, they are very cool.

That gives me a fresh WTF every time.

Ijust can't help associate it with things like cattle branding, how permanent a marker it is tagged on your skin.

I only have problems with awful tattoos. Which is really most of them. A note to anyone, tattoos of people's faces never work out well. Especially when that person is a baby.

Edit: There is something slightly uncanny about not playing your violin for months, and then picking it up to find it in tune and then playing a near-perfect G Major scale on it first time. Without a tuner or any other aid.
