Was that the VN uprising?

There was a VN uprising? I'm fairly new to these forums[Started lurking late 2013], so I've never heard of it. What exactly is VN and why was there an uprising against/for/through/at it?

VN was Various Nonsense, and it was the predecessor to General Discussion. Back then, Toady's moderation standards were a bit more libertine, and VN eventually got out of control as DF became more popular. Eventually it got bad enough that he decided to nuke VN and replace it with GD, and things have stayed that way ever since.

Forums were down for almost an entire day. When we came back it was discovered that everything on the forums had been reset to the way it was exactly 2 years ago. All the new content since then had just outright vanished. Stayed that way for a couple hours while everyone panicked before Toady managed to fix it.

All the new content since then had just outright vanished. Stayed that way for a couple hours while everyone panicked before Toady managed to fix it.

So, sounds like Toady was testing a time machine and made a small miscalculation with it.

The longer I spend on these forums, the more I think most of the past of Bay12 is a huge series of Noodle incidents. I've heard people talking about the VN uprising, something about a Penguin Menace and now time travel. All this makes me sad I didn't discover DF and Bay12 sooner.
