How is that supposed to ENCOURAGE people to eat their products? I thought the general meat advertising strategy was to make sure that people don't know that it actually came from animals. This is such a huge step in the opposite direction its barely even funny. There are just SO MANY things wrong with those ads. These are creepy as hell and then some.

Those are pretty awful.
Although at least they show the creature it came from, unlike the slab of steak with eyes and legs on Subway's website.

I think that what you are describing happens only in the states. Here in (Eastern) Europe, every meat seller tries to emphasize how their meat came from actual, real animals, because the people are paranoid about GMOs and ersatz ingridients.

Yeah, the first one is an old French, probably 1920-1950. And it's de rigeur in the United States for a lot of barbecue joints to have logos of pigs looking happy to be devoured.

It's an overview of some of the data in the Statistics section of the forum, in Excel format with fancy graphs. Topics per day/month, Posts per day/month, New members per day/month and Most members online at once per day/month. It's all there.

Should I make a topic for this so the data fetishists like me can go and rub their faces in it somewhere else?

Edit: Oh, ya, it doesn't have 2008 because I didn't think it was representative. Should I add it?

VN was Various Nonsense, and it was the predecessor to General Discussion. Back then, Toady's moderation standards were a bit more libertine, and VN eventually got out of control as DF became more popular. Eventually it got bad enough that he decided to nuke VN and replace it with GD, and things have stayed that way ever since.

I think it was actually DF2010. The same thing happened with 2012, but I'm pretty excited for this new release because I want to see what the data will show.
