Can't find my math notebook anywhere. I vaguely remember someone asked to borrow it but I'm not certain if that actually happened. And I've looked over everything. God damn it, there were pages of useful stuff in there :C

While I was talking to my friends this morning, we noticed the front page of some guy's folder for some school project. It had the school logo in the center of a white circle on a red flag.
For reference, this is the (brand new) school logo:

The real logo also includes the name of my school but I'm not posting that here. I should've probably set the alpha properly but eeh, paint.net can't do that properly apparently.

Your school's logo is... drunk DDR?

E: oh, wait, empty space mostly-swastika, gotcha.

I wonder if that is totally accidential. The swastica is a pretty simple shape, so it could happen accidentially if you aren't paying attention.

The US navy did it by accident with some buildings of theirs or something, an honest mistake at least.

I think the Swastika was originally a Native American symbol.

I heard it was an Indian symbol of Sun.

It's also used in India, where they consider it a non-evil symbol, which is why you occasionally hear of someone from India using it innocently and people complain about it.

It's the Nazis who, unfortunately, made the symbol an evil one in the west.

It's a pretty simple shape; it was used almost everywhere. Hell, until 1945 the Polish(!) army had some medal or something like that with a swastika on it!

Also, drunk DDR?

Is hasn't stopped being used in religious functions in India.

Besides, the empty swastica is backwards and one of the legs bends the wrong way.

The swastika and similar symbols are extremely old, not only in Europe and India but all over the world, there are even cave carvings of it, that are interpreted as sun symbols.
The nationalist use in Germany dates back to the 19th and early 20th century, when pan-germanic nationalists and neo-pagan occultists like Guido von List began to use it.
In the early 1900s it was popular in the US as a sign of luck.

Wow, I knew it was a popular (and positive) symbol of Hinduism, but I never realised it was used in the U.S. :o

Until Nazi germany completely twisted its original meaning and made a pretzel out of it, and not in a good way.

On a non-swastika related note...

I just realized that there are now multiple X-Com LPs on the Forum that do not have MaxClones in them. I'm not sure if it's that fact or the fact that it surprises me so much that gets me more...
