I know this is old, but as a note:

They can install devices that require you to pass a breathalyzer test before allowing your car's ignition to work. They're not very common here. I think a judge can order them installed for people who are convicted of drunk driving, so that even when they get their licenses back, they have to pass this before driving for several months.

Where I live you are required, after three DWIs (a felony), to have one of these installed at your own expense.

Had to go out with my mom to go get groceries. Strange time to go out and do that.

We were only supposed to go for one bag of milk, and we left with our week's worth of groceries.

And my mom kept talking to other customers, then complaining to me about talking to other people. She's the one who initiated the conversations.

Plus there was some old lady at the register who stalled the line for ten minutes because of some argument with the cashier. I'm not sure what it was about, but she had some flyers from another store, so it may have been about some "price-match" thing the store has.

Finally, we had difficulty getting the groceries put in the car because the backseat was filled with all the old cardboard boxes we had used to move, and the trunk was filled with my mom's work supplies.

Accidents and traffic.

Let's see...
Traffic sucked. I mean, it's LA so that's to be expected, but it was worse than normal.

Accidents ranged from relatively minor (a car or two pulled to the side of the road or spun out facing the wrong way, often just a single cop taking statements), to bizarre (nearly a dozen cars pulled to the same shoulder, spread out a little but clearly they either all hit in the same area or were all involved), to the nasty (several lanes of oncoming traffic blocked by a bunch of emergency vehicles), and finally the very recent (car spun out in the middle of the highway. It must have been recent because traffic was still moving instead of jamming up for five miles).

Those were the ones I remember. Plus tow trucks errywhere, coming and going. A couple of heavy-duty tow trucks as well.
