Oh my god I was wondering why my mouse disappeared whenever it hit the right side of my screen. I assumed it was just some dumb Windows 8 edge-of-screen gesture thing.

But my computer totally thinks that there are two monitors. I selected the "only display desktop on screen 1" option and it seems like it's fixed all the issues, but I can't figure out how to get the other phantom monitor out of my monitor settings.

The only reason I can even think for that to be a thing is that you have some errant cord or something plugged into that other slot.  Either that or it's a driver issue with your graphics card.  Or it could be something buggy with Windows 8 for all I know.  Windows 8 is an accursed and devilish place, full of touch screen interfaces for my non-touch screen computers.

I have successfully detached the blue cord. It has solved all my problems.

My mouse doesn't disappear off the edge of my screen anymore, so I feel great.

So my laptop charger died. I don't know how or why. The cord seems to still be a cord. I guess something happened in the box thingy? I want to do an autopsy but I have been informed that this is not a good idea.

... since when did today's youth let something as facile as a bad idea stop them? Take that thing apart! Hopefully nothing will explode/corrode/poison you. And if it does, well, <insert preferred gender> dig mutilated hands, right?

Unless you're stupid enough to plug it in first, or try to eat it, there is nothing in an AC-DC converter that can harm you. Building them is a common early soldering project.

I think the reason is that there are capacitors in there that aren't necessarily discharged? I dunno, if I wear some kind of protection and ground all metal before I touch it, maybe.

Capacitors can be dangerous, I'm fairly sure thats why you aren't supposed to open crts either.
