This is concerning romantic love, of course. You can "love" ['I love that comedian!'] whatever you damn well want. But misplaced usage of the word doesn't mean any love is now an acceptable form. I pronounce it "dog-eh". There was a video game I played where there was someone with a title of "doge" pronounce "do-wj" (like "dojo" without the "o" on the end).
So whenever I see "doge" I think of it like some kind of title, like a sultan.
