It's because of the light from the screen, mostly, which illuminates everyone around the user enough to be really distracting. Also the person texting is making body motions that are different from the norm of a theater-goer. And yes, if it's a quiet part, you can definitely hear the buttons clicking.

Everything on my computer (meaning Chrome, the mouse, scrolling etc.) is suddenly and inexplicably running at 60 FPS.
