Can I be the first to point out that getting to -10 before societal breakdown is actually quite impressive. Here, the entire country shuts down at -1 and the official reaction is as follows:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

May I also present the GCT (Graknorke's cousin theorem):
sqrt(cousin), sqrt(gf), sqrt(gf2) = 3,4,5 - a perfect Pythagorean triangle!
I have proven this relationship via math.

Apparently, Britain still haven't discovered snow ploughs, winter tires and how to use sand to make the walkways less icy.

But things freezing in winter is a surprise.
And tyres are expensive.
And snow ploughs are a symbol of American excessive waste when they're used a lot. Like top-loader washing machines.

We do use grit but we never have enough of it. Even in Scotland where we're supposed to be used to these things we have no idea how to handle snow.

I do indeed. How did you guess?
On a related note today I filled up the entire hoover with pine needles.

As for snow plows, for that doesn't the snow have to be deeper than an inch? Seriously, we are useless at this. Sand is already used, but we keep running out =/. As for winter tyres? I can only assume that they are too great a purchase for the public in the hard times.
Graknorke are you British? I know Owlbread is Scottish.

Of course. I'm from Best Yorkshire. That's why I enjoy mocking southerners and other nesh types.

We're lookin' at seventeen below, Fahrenheit over 'round Wisconsin come tomorrow. Sounds almost amicable from what you lot are saying. I'm really, really hoping we don't have to walk a lot of tech around campus tomorrow for work. That would suck on so many levels.
Yeah, but looking at the forecast, wind chill could reach about -50. So dress warmly and don't face into the wind, I guess.

As a Brit, I can say this:

I know how to deal with snow, but I can use it as an excuse, so I pretend to not know.
I know how to deal with snow, yes, but that doesn't mean the Bay12 British can keep the country running...

Yorkshire is nice. So that makes me, Owlbread, Graknorke and greatorder confirmed. Is loud whispers British? We must make a list and then drink tea, jolly good fun, what ho!

Well, there is a possibility that I won't remain British for very long... but I will partake in said tea drinking as I consider it to be an acceptable display of this island's shared culture. Plus the Canadians and Irish drink it too so that's ok.

Well, you'll still be living on the island of Great Britain. You just won't be in the United Kingdom of Half of Great Britain and All Of Northern Ireland.

It's known that I'm from Britain, but exactly where is a mystery to those who don't know how to do IP magic.
I was under the impression that it is absolutely impossible to see the IP of other forum members through their posts and things?
