So...there is a person who seems legitimately crazy (or possibly under the influence of something) walking around outside my truck. She's ranting and raving about something or other, waving around papers in one hand and a bag in the other.

I'm not really sure what to do here o.o

She could've just been on the phone, using one of those annoying earphone/headsets that are hard to spot from a distance.
Many times I've been startled by people near me speaking to me, or rambling to themselves, only to realise they're on the phone. ::)
Could have been, but I don't think so. It's hard to explain without you having been there, but if she was having a conversation with anything I think it only existed in her head.

According to Russian news channels, the ongoing winter storm in the United States of America is expected to bring temperatures across the Midwest down to -50 degrees Celsius.
Judging by how temperatures of -10 degrees Celsius with a little bit of snow can easily paralyse large areas of the US, the sudden onset of Siberian winter will surely lead to apocalyptic consequences.
Probably the temperature estimates were a little bit incorrect, though.
Nope. The temperatures are accurate; that's what we're seeing in our reports too.
http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2014/01/05/22187316-only-getting-colder-blast-of-frigid-air-set-to-smash-records?lite
"Wind chills may reach 50, 60 or even 70 below zero —temperatures much of the country has not seen in decades." (though keep in mind, that's F; so -45 to -55C)

And apparently some places are already below -30:
"Already, parts of New England dropped into the negatives Saturday, with East Brighton, Vt., seeing 30 below zero just after midnight and Allagash, Maine, hitting minus 36."

It's snowing heavily here at the moment, but the temperature is still pretty nice.  And no wind.  Perfect weather for pleasant winter walk or snowball fighting.

Yeah, I'm told we expect -25F tomorrow, without accounting for windchill. I think I'm gonna take the shuttle most of the way home instead of walking, probably.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Yeah, it's 33F here right now, but supposed to plummet overnight to around -15F all day tomorrow, without windchill.

Meanwhile my truck's thermometer is reading 65 F here in Central California. It doesn't seem to account for wind chill though.

* scrdest mumbles incoherently about Murricans stealing all my winter

Seriously, it's the warmest winter I remember, it has snowed literally twice and it melted within like three days, and ever since temperatures didn't even drop below zero. In comparison, last year it was -20 Celsius for at least a month.

Yeah, the huge cold weather thingy that's hitting the east coast is going to hit my part of the South tomorrow or so. It's going to go below freezing temperatures and stay below freezing for more than a day.

Folks here are bunkering down, though me being from northern Utah, this is still only moderately cold winter weather :P

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

My 9 year old sort-of-cousin has two girlfriends. Aged 16 and 25.
I am both impressed and horrified.

Meanwhile in Belarus, daytime temperatures remain firmly above zero.

It's a free market now, so winter goes where the opportunities are.  ;) Here in the European socialist welfare state it's firmly above zero too, with no sign of snow so far.

Hell no, the whole system is based upon exploitation of other countries - America takes the snow belonging to other countries, sometimes even by using military force! The morbidly obese American snowmen consume the majority of the world's snow, which was undoubtedly taken away from starving snowmen in third-world countries!
We must put an end to this injustice!
