Every evening at 10 p.m. the "Flogsta scream" may be heard, when students scream collectively from windows, balconies and roof tops.

We did something similar in college during "Hell Week" (final exam prep period). For a half hour each day, everyone on campus was allowed to be as loud as they wanted to, typically late afternoon. We held pre-planned sofa cushion mosh pits in the basement with NIN's "Wish" blaring at volumes just below the point where the speakers would pop. Good times.


With the Swedish equivalent though, I can't help but think of Walt Whitman writing I sound my barbaric yawp over the rooftops of the world.
Cause I can totally see a bunch of Swedes yelling "YAWP!" xD

Today, I learned that orange trees can apparently produce a vaguely ridiculous amount of oranges. Picked... probably around a hundred, maybe a bit less. Not even half way through the tree, yet. S'a good... 150-200 oranges, somewhere in the range, produced by that tree.

That's a lot of citrus.

That's still a substantial number of lemons. Enough to, say, burn a house down. Or drive someone insane with poorly penned smut. Wait, do people actually write stories anymore, as opposed to typing them?

Something like 1 in 10 probably will rot during processing, then another 1 in 10 during shipping, and maybe 1 in 20 when they get shipped to the store for sale. So of that hundred, maybe 77 or so could be actually sold. And now that I work with produce in a grocery store, this is all I think whenever I see fruit. "I bet about a quarter of the harvest was just wasted..." Or I think about the last time I dealt with a rotten variety of that particular fruit. Oranges in particular rot oddly. They turn white as the mold eats them from the inside out, but the rind doesn't become soft or moist, it stays somewhat rigid. The insides liquefy and the rind starts to look like a deformed white-and-sickly-yellow thing. So, if you squeeze them, prepare for decidedly unpleasant results, but you can handle one relatively safely without worrying about getting slimed otherwise.

Mostly consumed by family or passed around to friends and suchlike. Totes commiserate with the viewpoint change, though. I've already developed an odd fondness of financial reports.
