As someone who lives in Ontario, Canada, and orders a lot of stuff online, it really bothers me that there's a city of Ontario, CA.

Yeah, I've been there a few times. They have a nice truck stop, though the fact that they actually charge for parking means I almost never go there.

That's a WTF in itself. I think its the only truck stop I've ever been to that charges for that.

Here in NC, we have a Warsaw. This confused the hell out of me as a young kid because my grandfather regularly drove there to make freight deliveries and was back by dinner. And yet the news was showing Lech Walensa and Solidarnosc and it was clearly far across the ocean.  :P

We also have Troy and Carthage (pretty close to each other, actually). And a New Bern.
And like most of the original Colonies, we have a shitton of places named for English places.

We also have Bat Cave. Another reason not to fuck with North Carolina...we *are* the night.

There is a Sparta somewhere around here. Don't fuck with Missouri. We'll unironically kick you into a well screaming, "THIS IS SPARTA!" Then go do a bunch of meth.

At least your Branson is nice.  If not the hilliest goddamn place I've ever had the misfortune of driving around in.

Hans. You don't want some particularly literal-minded police officers to find this post.

We have a Sparta, too. Population: roughly 4k.

(Unrelated to the city discussion, though my state does have several named after other places)

I finished Puzzle Agent last night.

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

The art style somehow amplifies the surreal, vaguely horror-ish nature.

I think there are some cities that are named after countries...

I wonder if there are any cities in one country, named after another country, which also had a city, named after the first country?

Edit: Also, look up the French city of Y, and specifically it's twin cities, such as it's Welsh one.

It's hilarious~

United States of America:

Scotland, Arkansas
Scotland, Connecticut
Scotland, Florida
Scotland, Georgia
Scotland, Indiana
Scotland, Maryland
Scotland, Missouri
Scotland, Pennsylvania
Scotland, South Dakota
Scotland, Texas
Scotland, Virginia
Scotland County, Missouri
Scotland County, North Carolina
Scotland Neck, North Carolina
Scotland Run, New Jersey

Canada:

Scotland, Ontario

Australia:

Scotland Island, New South Wales

That's if we just consider "Scotland". Let's try "Scotia".

United States of America:

Scotia, California
Scotia, Nebraska
Scotia, New York
Scotia, Pennsylvania
Scotia, South Carolina

Canada:

Nova Scotia, Canada

We should also consider an entire "sea", tectonic plate and island arc on the other side of the world being named after us:

Scotia Arc
Scotia Plate
Scotia Sea

Now, finally, let's try Albany. It may be cheating a bit since these were named after the Duke of Albany, and later towns named after Albany, New York, but since "Albany" means Scotland I think we can justifiably say our name has spread far and wide.

United States of America:

Albany, Alabama
Albany, California
Albany, Illinois
Albany Park, Chicago
Albany, Indiania
New Albany, Iowa
Albany, Louisiana
Albany, Maine
Albany, Minnesota
Albany, Missouri
Albany, Nebraska
Albany, New Hampshire
Albany, New York
Albany, Ohio
Albany, Oklahoma
Albany, Oregon
Albany, Pennsylvania
Albany, Tennessee
Albany, Texas
Albany, Vermont
Albany, Wisconsin
Albany, Wyoming

Canada:

Albany, Nova Scotia
Albany River, Ontario
Fort Albany, Ontario
Albany, Prince Edward Island

Australia:

Albany, Western Australia
Albany Creek, Brisbane
Albany Island, Queensland

New Zealand:

Albany, Auckland

South Africa:

Albany, South Africa

Huh, I could have sworn this town was twinned with a French city named Y.

But I can't even find the French one.

In order to exercise the Welsh muscles in my brain (left through genetics) I learned how to say that quickly. I think I can do it quite well.

But yes... Where's the tectonic plate, sea and arc of Antarctic Islands named after YOU, England? Try to top that one, ya bass.

It's Y, Somme.

But I don't see anything about a twin city. Maybe that ended? Or I imagined it...
