Bird-facilitated introduction of ticks and associated pathogens is postulated to promote invasion of tick-borne zoonotic diseases into urban areas. Results of a longitudinal study conducted in suburban Chicago, Illinois, USA, during 2005–2010 show that 1.6% of 6,180 wild birds captured in mist nets harbored ticks.
tl;dr: Not even urbanization is going to save your ass, now.

Unless it involves shooting down every single bird in the country.

Wait a minute, wait a minute. Are these like tick paratroopers? We're fucked. It's only a matter of time before they get tanks and other armored vehicles.

Tick Tanks?
Horrifying mental image of tick-driven tanks that shoot balls of ticks at you.
Isn't saying "horrifying" redundant, as anything that shoots balls of parasites at you automatically falls under that category?

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

On the other hand, you will have first chance at his stuff! Morons, daredevils and the suicidal are real socialist heroes; redistributing everything they have.

Err, I live in NYC and I've never encountered ticks? How does a person such as myself exist? I sit in the park, go in the subways, be near random dogs, etc.

A Fiat 500 Cabrio is the only answer.

Pure and unfettered luck. Also, hell, I live in freaking Florida, I've actually rumbled through swamps and forests and etc., and I've never actually gotten a tick on me. Few pets have, but not me. For all that the buggers are pervasive it's not like they're mosquitoes and you run into them every time you go outside.

I'm in the SF bay area, but more toward the farmy kind of stuff down in half moon bay. I was out doing flight-testing of a drone before delivery with a friend. It went down in a field about 3 miles away, but since I was still recovering from a bad ankle fracture, he went to go get it.

He came back with about 40 ticks. I've hiked around the same kind of stuff for years and never gotten one.

Suddenly my day turned from great to awful.

One of the turbos in my car just exploded, as I was under it. Shunted many many little metal blades toward my lung area. My kevlar work jacket protected me from bleedings but it hurts like shit. And I think I woke up half the block with my expletives.

Gotta fit up a new K03 turbo. That's about an 8-hour job. Dunno how well it'll run on 1 turbo in the meantime.

You know... I think I found out what is probably the thing that is ruining modern horror movies.

I call it Jerkitus

the vast majority of horror movies now adays just fill their horror film to the brim with unlikable characters so you cheer when they die.

Ok... it isn't the actual problem... but I am starting to notice it more and more.

Uhh... Ace, would you mind telling me what it is that you do for a living, so I can make a note to myself to never go into that profession?

To be fair, it's hard to be afraid of the crazy mutant robot alien when you are cheering them on instead of the main characters.

Hey remember when there were horror movies where there could be multiple survivors (or even majority survivors) and they presented everyone as either likable or understandably unlikable instead of just making it a total massacre where the most likable character is the villain because at least he realizes these people need to die?

Actually no... That kind of horror movie is RARE even back then. Nevermind.
