That's a cannon.

In proximity, but no rolled up tobacco.

Apparently my computer has now been in continuous operation for over 35 days.

... mine hasn't been shut down or restarted in 40, according to the system idle cpu time. 972 hours. Gets put into sleep mode fairly often, but yeah.

Incidentally, though, what program is that?

Continuous. I.e. it's been over a month since he turned it on.

It's called disabling them.

htop, because the system-provided top isn't nearly as colorful and fun.

I use Linux, so what are these autoupdates of which you speak? :) I do update my computer though (in fact I've got an updated kernel and Xorg that needs a restart to test), it's just that I'm not usually motivated to actually shut it down. Although usually I don't let it run that long before shutdown.

(Now that I think about, I should really just hit the restart button soon. The HDD is definitely due for a fsck check.)

Unless I have been englishing incorrectly all my life, you spell them differently, with draft for the military draft, and draught for the air currents. Or it coud be an American thing either. I honestly don't know. American English language sure is weird that way.
Not particularly embarrassing.

Clicking on the topic link, I have to disagree with the first post under yours. "cheque" is not the worst British spelling an American can encounter. This is:

Quote from: What does the Brit say?
Getting him out of gaol was quite an ordeal.

Don't understand what was just said? Here's the American form:

Quote from: What does U.S. say?
Getting him out of jail was quite an ordeal.

Yep. US 'jail' is UK 'gaol'. That's a WTF all on its own. (Incidentally, I refuse to pronounce the UK version as /dʒeɪl/, preferring instead /ɡaʊl/)

I'm fairly sure I'm from the UK and have never heard of gaol before.

I first saw it in 'Wind in the Willows'.
Because that book is really old.

Not sure if ambiguity purposeful....

However, coming from the UK myself, and knowing the term, it is far from common.
I would like to point out however, that it was our language first :P
