Found one of the Left Behind: The Kids (A YA spinoff of the more famous Pre-Tribulationist novel series with teenage protagonists) books at work the other day, with a condom used as a bookmark. It wasn't the sort of cheap thing used as handouts either, but a fairly expensive flavored brand.

...

...

...

How did you know it was flavored?

I'm not entirely sure, but the words "Strawberry Flavored" in bold red font likely proved to be a clue.

I usually reserve this for special occasions, but that has me cracking right the fuck up. Best tumblr 2013.

Usually says on the package.

Also this. I wish it were satire. That's a hilarious picture of a sad man with a blob fish.

But it's not.

He said indoctrinade.

Oooooh, still in the package would explain it.

If you didn't get that, why didn't you challenge me on the "fairly expensive" part instead?

My mental image didn't include the wrapper.

My mind started to wander in the direction of condom tasting parties, ala wine & cheese, and if someone could be a condom connoisseur...

and then it got weird.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I remember the first conversation I had in high school was with some newly-made sophomore friends, one of them talking about the flavored condoms she'd brought to a four-person shower orgy.

That was a rather surreal year for me.

This migrant wave in DF is causing DF to crash in a Big Fiery Ball Visible From Space. I had to force my computer to shut down.

It's not a migrant wave, it's a memory leak. Now I need to know what's causing it. Pretty much 100% sure it's my fault.

So, watching live games on chess.com.  Two people are playing three minute chess, one an American rated ~1925, the other one from Turkey and rated ~1985.  This website starts its players off at 1200, so that's pretty fricken high for both of them.  You'd think they'd be about even, maybe a small advantage the higher rated guy, right?  Nope, the 1985 guy absolutely rips the lower rated guy apart.  In one game he manages to fork a queen and two rooks with a single knight... and then later, fork the queen and remaining rook WITH THE SAME KNIGHT.  In another game he spends the first 4 or six moves (happened so fast I couldn't tell) moving his knight back and forth from its starting square, giving his opponent free moves, and he lost on time at the very end but obviously would have won otherwise.

So in short... chess ratings, how do they work?

edit: And then the other guy started winning repeatedly.  I don't even know.

If it's actually elo rated, you gain more points and lose less if you win/lose agajnst a better-rated enemy, and vice versa against a lower-rated foe. If someone naturally good entered a chess site and started playing, his elo would not accurately reflect his skill until he plays and wins a bunch of games.

The flow of a chess game can change very rapidly. With skilled players, even one barely sub-optimal move can spell certain defeat. Even if absolutely zero mistakes are made by either side, white will ultimately win because moving first is an advantage in chess.

It's like Starcraft. On the lower-level play, you can go 15 minutes without hide nor hair of the enemy, and then a massive battle of tanks and ultralisks and cattlebruisers.

On higher level, it's all about managing the tiniest movement of your units, and scouting, and getting out the right unit at the right time. Like going straight for a battlecruiser at the 7 minute mark.

One wrong play (letting in a zergling before your finish your wall, and him destroying half your scvs, or misclicking and having all your mutalisks swoop down over the butter-ball of marines) and you're boned.

AND THUS ENDS MY NERD MOMENT OF THE DAY.

Zero Punctuation hasn't updated in two weeks, and absolutely no-one has said anything about it as far as I can tell.
