I thought that we called you 'kilts'.
Those other insults suck.

Tell that to the English, they need to work on their material.

So, what I took from that picture was that medieval kings were very much into tabletop games and built ridiculously detailed models while wearing suits with a pattern that looks like a crowd of faceless people. SCIENCE!

I just remembered that Uplink fanfiction was a thing.
It's actually surprisingly good. At least, some of it.

As an early 17th birthday present, I got a phone. I am now no longer the oldest person I know without one.

This should give you some insight on how detached from reality my parents are.

Don't worry, you'll never be the least-connected person you've spoken with. I'm sure that (my, my) someone you know doesn't have a cell phone at all.  :P

If it makes you feel better, I didn't get a mobile until I was 18, and then only because the circumstances of my new job were such that there was always the possibility that something would happen and I'd end up in the ER/having to give a witness statement/get mugged and not be able to pay bus fare. I got a dinky $10 Tracphone and have never used or needed anything else. Which is good, I suppose; I lost one to the washing machine and another to the river.

I was forced to get a (non-smart)phone at 14. I broke the screen by falling on it four days after I got it, but used it so seldom that I was able to conceal this fact for over two and a half years. I spent a decent amount of time trying to convince my mother not to buy me an iPhone when we were in financial uncertainty. She finally stopped listening to me and got me one anyway for Christmas 2012.

That, above and beyond all else, is why I don't intend to ever get a smartphone. Drop a couple hundred dollars and if you somehow manage to avoid shattering the screen, it'll be obsolete in a year anyways. Oh, and wallet-gouging phone plans.

The design of the unkillable Nokias are quite interesting, and pretty much the exact opposite of most smartphones. Essentially, the Nokia is designed to break apart easily without damaging anything, distributing any force and thus lessening potential damage. iPhones, on the other hand, remain in one piece no matter what and cannot even be fully disassembled without breaking the screen apart.

And this difference is enough that iPhones will break from a two-foot drop onto carpet, while Nokias have been demonstrated to survive being blown up by a quarter-stick of dynamite.

I don't have a phone yet, and when I do (oh I'm sure I'll find myself needing it someday), it'll be something like a Tracfone. My parents seem to be doing fine with it :) .

Funny enough, if you asked me a few years ago (≈2009-2010), I would've certainly said smartphones all the way. I guess I've since wised up to how terrible computers tend to be in non-desktop form for what I like to do.
