So you guys shut the government down when Congress can't agree on a bill or something?
How is it still exist?

It shuts down when no funding bills passed, which means that "non-essential" services are shut down. Wikipedia's got a sort of overview, but basically if nobody's lives depend on you doing your job, and you aren't self-funded like the postal service, you're not coming into work this month (until they fix it). And you ain't getting paid. And if you are coming into work, you might still not be being paid.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I was slightly worried because I'm going to need to go to the DMV in later October, but after the 16th, so things will either be solved or apocalypse by then.

Specifically, the Conservatives refuse to negotiate.

Ironically, that make Iran more willing to talk then the republicans.

The government shuts down when congress refuses to allow the country to borrow the money to keep running from itself.

If the budget was balanced, there would never be a risk of shutdown.

But the people who bitch about balancing the budget the most, the republicans, refuse to allow the only option that balances the budget... an increase in taxes.

We can survive a shutdown for a little while, but it causes massive economic hardship, and if we default its pretty much game over for America as a nation, and we will drag the world economy to hell in the process.

On the plus side... All those childhood fantasies about dealing with an apocalypse? Looking more likely than ever.

I actually made a joke to my wife earlier:

"If the shutdown doesn't give them what they want, what will they threaten us with then? A zombie apocalypse?"

If America defaults, it can't buy from China.
If China can't buy from America, China crashes and burns.
If China crashes and burns, Russia crashes and burns.
If Russia crashes and burns, Europe crashes and burns.
If Europe crashes and burns, the world is pretty much fucked.

Now, somebody render that into a rhyming scheme and we can make it a children's guide to why Congress are very foolish people.

It's like giving mice cookies, it always ends in the apocalypse.

Off the subject of mice genocide, it's occurred to me that when i take my dogs out at night i must look really creepy wearing my full camouflage outfit. I'm pretty sure a police SUV drove by me twice, and then i saw a police car drive by that area.

A better way of putting it is that China, the US and Europe are the three Pillars of the World Economy. One of those, Europe, has not been doing well, while the other, China, has shown to be slowing (still fairly high, but they can't life other nations out of trouble alone). If the US falls, Europe and China would fall, and then rocks fall, everyone is poor.

And this is all the day after I take the PSAT.

Anyway, I severely underestimated the amount of work needed to do a Technical drawing assignment, now I'm going to have to hand it in late despite working all night.
