Currently watching Haiyore! Nyaruko-san. An anime featuring cthulu mythos as cute anime girls. WTF japan?

Having been reading Lovecraft recently, I was really wondering what the name of this series was. I've never been a viewer of anime, but I'll most likely make this exception.

Hooray, Japan!

Demonbane did it first! Well, they did it with tomes of eldrith power based on Lovecraft as girls and mecha.
too much loli though for me

Weeeell, one is (originally) a pornographic action visual novel(which is why I haven't played the fuck out of it yet (poor choice of words)), and the other is (originally) a light-hearted series slice-of-life comedy light novels. Different enough to still warrant a mention, I'd think.

At first, I was excited to learn that ABC is making an alternate history drama about the American Revolution failing, but apparently it is set in the modern day, the British Empire is a totalitarian dictatorship, and there is still an insurgency in the Thirteen, 237 years later.

Damnit, give me proper alternate history media!

It's a pretty popular alternate history thing... and one that's pretty much always handled horribly.

In that case, perhaps maybe you'd be willing to try out some paranormal romance?

Sounds like you'd like "If The South Had Won The Civil War" by MacKinlay Kantor. Focuses mostly on the immediate, only really goes into the farther future in the last chapter.

I'm not adverse to far-back points of divergence, so long as they are well justified. The Patriots having a post-war insurgency is viable enough, but certainly not them going LCS on the British from 1776 to 2013!

* Flying Dice resists the temptation to make an IRA quip.

You could try Turtledove for some of that AH drug, if you can stand his... quirks. The best is probably the one where space lizards invade in the middle of WWII.

There's enough AH literature to sink a cruise ship, I was excited because this is TV.

"What is this... Tee Vee? I mean, I've searched information on it, but all I can surmise is that it's something akin to streaming video, except that you have to buy a giant monitor if you want to watch it in HD, and you have to pay a fee if you want anything interesting to show up in your searches."

-Our Grandchildren. Maybe. In the meantime, me.

An AH North America that remained under British control would probably end up like a very large Canada. The area that is currently the USA would be very similar to what it is today, maybe less industrialised and with more Scottish people around.

Canada is larger than the US, though less inhabited. There also wouldn't be much reason for there to be a separation between Canada and the US as per OTL. The Louisiana Territory would probably be taken by force, assuming the French Revolution and Napoleon still happen (which they probably would, as France's funding of the American Revolution is what put it over the edge). The Spanish territories are another matter, but I could see them eventually ending up in conflict with British North America.

The big question I would be interested in is how the spread of human rights is effected by it. The number of places that ultimately cribbed the US Constitution (which, by proxy, cribbed from the Magna Carta and various intellectuals) is beyond my ability to number.

Quebec (Province of Canada) is trying to ban religious imagery on government workers... Such as wearing Turbans, Crosses, or Kipa.

I don't consider this really to be a WTF thing... This is really for you guys. Since frankly anyone who is really aware of Quebec knows that they pull this crud all the time. Mostly because Quebec considers this as a way to "preserve their culture"

As I recall, France actually did that, and Quebec is very French, so I'm not exactly surprised.
