I'm quite anxious for the "Loot 2.0" patch for Diablo III, so I decided to check on it. No updates on their site, so I popped into the forum to see if there was any info there. The stupidity and strawmanning broke my mind.

Just saw a game (MGR:R) where the last boss was the toughest boss.

BOY is that rare now adays. Usually the last boss is a easy disappointing boss.

Ohh I know. I was just adding to it saying that even if we ignore secret and optional bosses (not all secret bosses are optional)... it is still incredibly rare!

For example even if we exclude two of the optional bosses in Kingdom Hearts (both who are the toughest bosses in the game)... The hardest boss isn't the last one (It is a few boss battles before that)

In RPGs, at least, it seems to usually be a stylistic thing. The penultimate boss is either the frontman/enforcer of the true Big Bad (in which case you fight the real mastermind that isn't really suited for direct combat, being either a hide-in-the-shadows manipulator or a Great Leader) or the physical manifestation of the Evil and Corrupting Power that turned an otherwise good person evil (in which case, the final boss is essentially a Mercy Kill).

As for other genres, they seem to want to avoid the guy in charge personally manning his defense like an idiot, but still want to give the player the satisfaction of taking them out.

In any case, a player that has level-grinded heavily or went to great lengths to get all secret weapons/abilities/powerups is going to find the final boss much, much easier than the developer intended. Unless, of course, you're playing something like Secret of Mana, where not reaching near-max spell levels in one circle (the hardest to grind, no less!) on both mages makes the final boss almost unwinnable.

Well I do agree that for some games that last boss is not really meant to be the challenging boss... (Like FFX. The Last boss being so easy was intentional)

For others it feels more like they are just giving it to you because you played so long.

Also oddly enough... I wish the Kickstarter goes wrong thread was still around... I found a TERRIBLE "The Sims" clone that is harassing the sims official forums for donations.

For some reason, halfway trough the day I started getting No Internet Connection messages when trying to get to DeviantArt, all other pages worked fine and that site confirmed it was just me. Thing is, everything else DArt works fine, my profile loads up, other pages of it load up, just the main page is problematic :C
