We should probably test the maxim "As the size of an explosion increases, the number of problems it is incapable of solving approaches zero".

Why settle with all these little explosions when we could use one big, Earth-Shattering Kaboom?

'Cause last time I checked all the (human, anyway) kaboom in the world wouldn't manage to be earth-shattering, mostly. Planet's a tough nut to crack.

... anyway, as always, it's entirely possible there's always been roughly the same frequency of industrial-and-otherwise accidents of similar scale... it's just that we're more aware of them nowadays. S'a lot of stuff like that.

It'd be interesting to see an actual breakdown of number-of-explosions-of-that-sort over the years, though... maybe they're increasing, maybe they're decreasing. Be neat to actually know, I think.

Yup, there are some problems which certainly warrant investigating. Security of the chemical sector isn't that great. Sadly, it's a problem that often gets understated. Or gets laughed away.

The Head of Belgian nuclear Regulation got practically laughed at when he tried to point attention to it, thanks to a rather unfortunate quote involving windpower being more dangerous than nuclear.
Which it is, especially in Belgium. Placing them in residential areas (No such thing as a minimum safe distance in Belgium) or in the middle of Antwerp's chemical industry zone might not be such a great idea. A single failure, and half the port's gone.

I'm WTF'ing over how many people come to this trucking school with no prior knowledge of how to use a stickshift. Probably 95% of the vehicles in the industry use manual transmission! Learning how to drive one of these is stressful enough, but when you throw struggling with a third pedal and a contraption sticking out of the floor into the mix...

Reminds me of the guy that froze to death in -80 degrees Celcius CO2 yesterday in the harbor of Antwerp. He was driving a tank truck with supercooled C02 for various industrial applications and it leaked during the unloading.
