Step one of dodging BS in installers: Always take the custom installation option over the typical if you don't trust it. YOu'll probably be given more prompts and thus more likely to find the things in step two
Step two of dodging BS in installers: Check the entire window. Theres probably a checkbox you missed that doesn't allow it to add that random thing if you uncheck it before accepting.

@Ak: Did use custom, only clicked "Accept" for one thing and I didn't see a single box, checked or unchecked. Might have missed one though.

Not necessarily. It is very possible that there is still malware that will reinstall the extension at some point. Just a heads up.
