I'm NOT a furry and I like the porn. Surely a furry who doesn't like the porn is also reasonably possible? (And in reality is the case for most furries)

Less than, less than. It took four days to lock both of 'em. I'm actually not entirely sure I've seen successive (discussion/non-spam) threads get closed down that quickly before, or at least recently.

Maybe do a steampunk thread instead or something. Perhaps a general foopunk thread. That might be amusing.

I typically find derails are an important part of the whole forum experience, I like letting the conversation meander where it wants to meander, with people creating new threads when they want to continue multiple conversations at once.

Apart from that there was a whole question of what the heck the thread was supposed to be about. Most of the thread consisted of "horseplay", people discussing what the thread was supposed to be about, people discussing what does and does not constitute a "furry", the OP getting angry, and people discussing the OP getting angry.

Throughout the OP never actually said what specifically the thread was supposed to be about, just what it wasn't supposed to be about, and that people should get creative.

The real WTF about the derails though is that they happen not because the conversation is meandering but because of the exact opposite, because there is real conversation in there.

The derail cannot happen in a meandering topic.

He/She said directly what it wasn't about right after the person attempted to derail it.

The problem is that the discomfort of the thread does help the derails because it is a normal defense mechanism.

It was properly defined and when it veered off the OP gave a warning which wasn't heeded because the people involved wanted to derail the topic.

If a person makes a Bondage thread, and then says "No sexual stuff guys, but I'm not going to tell you what to discuss", then what are people supposed to talk about? The leather industry? Then why can't it just be called "The Leather thread"?

All week I've been feeling sick to my stomach. It's not even just feelings of nausea, I haven't been able to feel hungry at all, and every time I eat it just makes my stomach hurt worse. I feel an empty stomach, but I don't feel the actual need to eat. I've practically been forcing myself to eat just to make sure that I am eating, even though it hurts.

This isn't a normal stomach flu or anything like that, is it?

Yeah but it was kinda the root.

"Furry" has sexual baggage, earned or not. If the OP didn't want people to immediately go to that she/he should have called it something less provoking to derails and trolls.
