Watching Silent Hill on TV and not really paying attention. Suddenly I look up and see Pyramid Head rip off all of a woman's clothes in one motion, and then all of her skin with another.
Needless to say, it was a really odd thing to see completely out of context...

The Silent Hill movie is kind of a shame, since it almost got things right. If not for the director being an extreme chauvinist and not understanding the lore it probably would have been good. They got the aesthetic almost perfect.

The second made an admirable attempt at fixing the things the first got wrong (most importantly, by bringing back the fucking demon-summoning cult), but was marred badly by the attempts at linking to it. Had they simply discarded the first film, it would probably have been spot-on.

The first one, however, did a better job of creating a few genuinely creepy moments.

From what I've seen, the movie would be great if the writing was a bit better. I really don't even mind the deviations from the lore.

Other than the deviations from the game lore, it is quite good. The plot is a bit disjointed, and somewhat bland without some of the unique flavor of the game world. The replacement of the demon cult with a generic pseudo-christian witchburning Inquisition is quite weak. Otherwise, it's a good movie.

Especially since the games establish that there was past conflict between Christians and the Silent Hill Cult, which the latter won.
