More or less. Its correlation to anything resembling intelligence is... spotty. Supposedly it measures your capability to learn, iirc, but... more or less only in specific ways, or... something. Too tired to remember or doublecheck wikipedia or somethin'. Suffice it to say I've seen folks with high IQs far, far outperformed on every/most level(s) by those with lower ones. It's a wonky thing, IQ.

I am actually having a hard time reformatting this to make sense how you want it to. I wish I'd just never seen that image, so that I could continue in mildly baffled ignorance.
I think it's adorable the oxford English dictionary has this little footnote under 'quite:'
"US very; really (used as an intensifier):
‘You’ve no intention of coming back?’ ‘I’m quite sorry, but no, I have not.’"

Wait, I missed this earlier. You're quite sure that that is actually how it is used in Great Britain?

Quite so. I was unaware Americans used 'quite' quite like that.

This is all quite bizarre.

Sudden resolve to use the word for both meanings, get!

Double-bonus points for usage where either fit without changing the overall intent of the sentence.

... actually, I think I'll just keep using it as I have been and let confusion pile where it will. This is the better plan.

We need more words like that, really. Would make things more fun!

You know, it sometimes occurs to people that they have a perfectly good trout that they have to get rid of and don't want to waste. It's more common than you think, and happened to me two years ago, except with a salmon. I did exactly what Tellemurius is describing, but hopefully said trout wasn't delivered to a bewildered man in the countryside at 3 AM like it was in my case.
Well it was a friend of the family but i did not expect that in the morning!
anyways mom gutted it, salted it and we grilled it whole and sat around the table and picked out the good pieces. ^_^

Fresh fish is rather nice, Salmon steaks in particular are a tasty meal and quite healthy too.

I've always used it both ways, depending on context.  (i.e. "Not quite enough" or "That's quite alarming")  It never occurred to me that it might be difficult for some people might be confused by this.

I was checking the Liberal Crime Squad wiki for information about doctors, then i scroll down and see an ad that said something to the effect of "Obama wants to protect abortion, STOP HIM" i laughed scrolled up and then "Help protect our second amendment rights!" I laughed even harder at the irony. Remember pay attention to where you advertise, people.

I came to know about this moron only now, what made me wonder at first was,'How can someone get harmed by believing the moon landing hoax' and then WHAM! He got punched by Buzz Aldrin himself!
