Green parties are one of the newer political movements. Probably only Pirate parties are younger. Building up a new movement can take decades.

But most of their policies seem to be about increasing funding to nationalised services, rather than anything specifically environmentalism based.

Actually, green parties used to be very succesfull just after their founding. Reason they don't get voted upon is that Britain has a FPTP system, which favors larger parties.

It's not very surprising that a Green Party would possess Statist views, given that green politics tends to place the blame for environmental issues mostly on private businesses.

I'm more confused by the fact that weapons are a blocked thing. Is it like they think someone's going to go on a rampage, be confused about what to do, and be thwarted because they aren't able to google "how does i stab doods?"

Why do people who live in militiarized countries find signs of military presence surprising? Seem to go hand in hand really

It has to do with frequency and timing. The local airport here is also an Air National Guard base that houses an F-16 squadron, so they tend to be flying around. Seeing a single slick (no external stores) fighter, or a pair of same in formation once or twice a week, tends to either draw no attention at all, or simply mild interest from enthusiasts. If a three-ship formation with external tanks is flying around, then people start to think "huh, that's strange." When you see an F-15 fly over, the reaction tends to be "What the fuck is that doing here?"
