It happens. After a while I learned how to get it back into place myself. Can't be going to the orthodontist for every single wire malfunction.

Weird-ass Spring Break.

Terrible allergies. An alternator which caught fire, and the manual replacement of said alternator rather than going to a shop. Two of the biggest (and most awesome) thunder storms I've ever seen. And an utter neglect of Bay 12.

So yeah. I'm almost looking forward to going back to school if it means that things will settle down a bit.

Everything I know is a lie.

Whitehead reportedly flew several times in his own powered aircraft designs in 1901 and 1902. More recently, the 100th anniversary edition of Jane's All the World's Aircraft credited Whitehead as the first man to build and fly an operational heavier-than-air flying machine.

That's two whole years before the Write Brothers flew at Kitty Hawk, and a heck of a lot longer of a flight.

I don't know what to believe anymore...

After his aeronautical experiments of the early 1900s, Whitehead faded from public view until a 1935 magazine article and a 1937 book focused attention on his life and work. In the years afterward "lively debate"[5] arose among scholars, researchers, aviation enthusiasts and even Orville Wright on the question of whether Whitehead preceded the Wright brothers in powered flight. Research in the 1960s and 70s, and pro-Whitehead books in 1966 and 1978, led to renewed examination of the claims by mainstream aviation historians.[6] Following a year of senior scholarship at the National Air and Space Museum, Gibbs-Smith concluded in 1970 that the Whitehead claims to first powered flight were false.

TL;DR: Yes, there's only shaky proof, and the Smithsonian isn't quite an angel when it comes to the presence or lack of truth in flight.


The Smithsonian had a rather shaky history with who flew first, even with the Wright brothers. They tried claiming the Bros didn't fly before Langley, who was a Secretary of the Smithsonian (Whatever that is), whose plane actually was never proven to fly (Tests in 1914 to see if it could were proven to include drastic changes from Langley's original design, thus irrelevant). His models worked, but the full scale ones didn't.

After the last Wright brother died, the folks giving the Wright brothers' plane, the Flyer, to the Smithsonian did so under one condition: The Smithsonian could not claim that another person had flown before the Wright brothers, or they would have to return the plane.

So, naturally the Smithsonian wouldn't easily claim someone else had flown before them and risk losing the Flyer. Granted, Whitehead didn't have a photograph of his flights, only a news article to back his claims up, and the Wright brothers certainly influenced modern flight a lot more than he did (Even if he did fly before the Wright brothers, which will probably never be proven).

Still, all of the stuff flying around the whole deal is rather interesting.

The weather.

The last couple of week it has been a schizo motherfucker on crack cocaine. One day is the perfect spring day with a bunch of sunshine, warm breezes and floaty fluffly clouds.

Next day however is a bleak hellscape of torrential rain, strong winds and ultimate stay at home weather.
