Huh. I just seem to have a part of my brain telling me to kill everyone I see. It made getting close to people difficult until I suppressed it.
I wonder what it's doing now?

Clearly it is biding its time, gathering strength until the moment is right for it to sieze control.
I prescribe a steady diet of squat thrusts. Oh and pomelo juice. I always forget the goddamn pomelo juice... Stupid pomelos.

It's kinda hard to differentiate between any two parts of my brain now.

Basically, I think it keeps me prepared to kill everyone around me at all times just in case I need to.

The only calls of the void I've had have been ones about me wondering what would happen if I threw x book or x document into any body of water. Not sure how that would prepare me for anything really.

Doesn't have to be rational. Human minds go in strange directions. It's such a damned complex system it is probably the only biological system we have that we don't have down to an absolute science.

The only real intrusive thoughts I get are racist/sexist, and then my conscious brain scolds the subconscious part. I never really get any weird violent urges. Well, maybe once or twice, but not at all regularly.

I've always assumed the extreme situation preparedness explanation also, but that doesn't really explain the call of the void.  That leads me to believe some part of it is also to reinforce general mindfulness and self-control.  It's like your subconscious setting up non-lethal ambush drills at random to ensure cognizance stays on its toes.

This one would make sense in most all contexts: What one finds most abhorrent the brain will test.

I have intrusive thoughts as well (like most everyone), but I've always interpreted it as my brain just thinking up random ideas. I have odd impulses that I wouldn't necessarily qualify as "bad" like your standard intrusive thought is.

It's like my subconscious is going, "hey, here's a situation and a multitude of things we could do with it. Let's pick a random action and throw it at the conscious brain to see what it thinks." And sometimes what it picks just happens to be violent or whatever.
