Eh, KoTH never appealed to me... In fact most 'adult' cartoons don't.
Adventure time? Fuck yea!
Adventure Time isn't an adult cartoon?
October 1st, 1992: Cartoon Network is established.
September 2nd, 2001: Adult Swim is established on Cartoon Network, lasting from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

April 1st: 2012: Toonami April Fools occurs. Fan demand for the return of Toonami is unexpectedly high and the April Fools joke results in a severe rating spike. Cartoon Network begins predicting the economic benefits of reviving Toonami.
May 26th, 2012: Toonami returns in earnest, for a Saturday six-hour block. It proves immensely popular and CN immediately begins looking into acquiring new licenses to keep the revival profitable.
January 22nd, 2013: The infamous lost episode of Dexter's Lab "Rude Removal", is posted in Youtube by Adult Swim. It is taken down a few days later, but the untold number of copies remain in circulation across the internet.
Late 2013: Adult and child viewership of daytime Cartoon Network programing reaches parity. Toonami's timeslot is expanded to Friday and Sunday.

2015: Controversy erupts due to increasingly mature themes in CN daytime programming. CN defends its broadcasts as quality works intended to appeal to both children and adults, publicly confirming what has been suspected for several years. The specifically offending content is edited, but a similar level of content remains mostly unopposed. Child-centric programming is now limited to the mid-morning timeslot, mostly watched by pre-schoolers.
2017: Cartoon Network officially changes its media title from Children's Animation to Animation. CN's daytime broadcast now reflects much more closely the intent of its first years than the early Adult Swim period. Adult Swim moves to its own channel and all nighttime broadcasts are handed over to Toonami.
2020: The Sons of the Patriots combat system comes online.
