Is youtube nicer to you when watching videos by people you are subscribed to?
It could just be cognitive bias, but I think I'm getting less ads, and the ones I do get I can always skip.

Bah :P

The most important part of this post is that I've discovered Putnam has a tumblr. Now I know your reddit account, your tumblr, and your Bay 12 account. And I've learned all of it without actually looking for any of it! Stalking can now commence.

Can't call yourself a real stalker unless you also know his IP address, phone number, home address, and the place where he keeps all his hidden stuff.

I had a history teacher in high school who was really good at this.  My favorite.  Everyone in the entire class except for me was talking and ignoring him, until the following.

"History history history history history history history you know I've been a teacher for a really long time and I understand how kids your age work.  You have no idea what I'm saying right now, but I can be 100% certain from experience that I will have your attention as soon as I say the word sex."

And on the word sex, which he does not alter his pace of speech or raise his voice at all when he says it, everybody in the class instantly turns to him and is silent.  After a slight pause and smile, he goes on with his lecture.  Memorable moment.

I think this is what they call 'retail therapy'...
I spent the better part of $100 today, after having caught the bus to the city to simultaneously avoid having to mop the floor for my increasingly despotic housemates and to avoid the real estate inspection. I had to particular plans to go on a shopping spree... I mean, I picked up a few new issues of comics I've been following, and I planned to look for a few CDs, but the longer I spent waiting at the comic store (it's a Thursday, so all the new stuff is fresh on the shelves, hence more people) the more stuff I picked up to buy.
And did I really need two CDs completely unrelated to the ones I was looking for? Really?

But yeah, I feel kinda better after all that. :P
Also saw an amazing street artist performing in the mall; he basically just had a collection of different sized plastic bowls, sheets of paper and a heap of spraycans, and from that created these amazing, surreal landscapes with flowing rivers and distant planets, each with the sort of glossy, futuristic(best word I can think of right now) finish I thought was reserved for digitally-created images.

You can really tell a lot about somebody by what they think of as a 'shopping spree'
Some less responsible people I know need to break the thousand mark before it is a 'spree'... These people tend to have trouble with finance.

Eh, I don't do shopping sprees. I'm more a fan of frequent small purchases. That way you always have something new and shiny!

Can somebody explain the logic behind Daylight Savings Time to me?

I mean, I understand the need to adjust something for the sake of energy efficiency and safety and all that stuff.

The approach to the problem just seems completely backwards to me.  We could just shift our schedules by an hour.

But no.

It's somehow less complicated to have every person on the planet reprogram all of their clocks so they can pretend there was some sudden warp in the fabric of space/time.

It's for the farming people. That's all I know, besides that it's stupid. I don't even know which direction the hour goes.

Fun fact: The majority of people have below average intelligence.
As such, you can expect a lot of people out there to decide 'No, I want X to happen at Y o'clock!' regardless of any rational. It is how some people work. They get this idea in their head that works for them and will not accept change.
Somehow, however, if you tell people that the clock has been changed by an hour, they can deal with it and not notice how it is functionally the same.
People aren't rational, don't look for logic in what they decide, especially as a collective.

Also it's easier when you're forced to wake up an hour earlier than when you just think that you should. XD

Also having a unified period of time when all schedules are tugged back is good.

I still think no DST is also a very good idea.
