A tearjerker (for many) advert had absolutely no effect on me.

This is odd, I think of a cat or kitten or something being abandoned, cue sadness.
An advert with an actual baby crying it eyes out, with the implication it'll never see its parents, and the most I get is 'meh'

Problem 1: It's a baby, it doesn't really know that. It'll adjust and get over it without really missing that.
Problem 2: It's outside your monkeysphere, you haven't really had time to build up empathy in that short ad.
Problem 3: You have developed an immunity to iocaineads.
