Quote from: Kim Jinpyo
"Homosexual love or marriage legalization not come to pass, in agreement with the Christian groups' ideas."

Seems that both major political parties in Korea are anti-LGBT. o_O
WTF? Why are the major parties in Korea concerned with the Christian vote?

*does some demographic checking*

......there are more self-identified Christians in South Korea than there are Buddhists.  :o
Whyyyyyy???

EDIT: So I'm spending the first five hours today on a conference call, standing by in case a training class needs technical assistance. They've already reset everything ahead of the class, and there are two techs on the ground at the class. I'm not cleared for the training material, so they've got the phone muted and I've got mine muted.

So....basically I just have to sit here and listen to silence for five hours, but I'm not allowed to step away from my desk on the outside chance they might actually need something. And I'll get paid for it. Kafka would be proud.

Thanks for reminding me. You would have thought that with the deomonization of the west christianity would lose popularity. I suppose the problem is that's it's still better then it's precedent. But come on! Christianity over Buddhism? Why?

I'm going to go out on two limbs here:

1. Better afterlife package. "Eternal happiness with all your family and friends and limitless food, drink, etc." vs. "Personal annhilation, if you're lucky."

2. No traditional connection to power structures. For the same reason that Buddhism was popular with liberals in the West, Christianity gained popularity in Asia in the 20th century. It was a peaceful but subversive religion that didn't have a connection to the established elites, and offered a personal connection to the Divine. Also, it was exotic which is always a draw for some people.

EDIT: And the grand Kafkaesque experiment came to a quick end. After about 40 minutes, somebody realized this was absurd and cut me loose.

YMMV on that part. Soka Gakkai is pretty active in recruitment, and there are other branches that have "missionary" services, although generally not as aggressive as some of the Christian denominations.

And of course, in Civ IV you can be as aggressive in promoting Buddhism as anything else :D

Weren't the Samurai a combinaiton of Shinto and Bhuddist? They were not exactly shy of breaking out the hyperviolence.

Yeah Buddhism has a lot of cultural mutation depending on where it's being practiced. Although super violence *does* have the slight snag of going against ahimsa.
Not really Buddhist then :x
