All of you seemed to go to much crappier high schools than the one I'm currently in. Then again, that may just be the fact that I have no real social contacts at all.
I know Indiana and Michigan have pretty low education standards. Indiana was one of the worst in the country when I was in school, but we're #17 now according to a quick search. My own school's graduation rates were really low, with girls barely over 60%, mostly because about half the girls in every class got pregnant. There were three teacher child molestation scandals in the region while I was in high school. In one case in another school in the same county, a math teacher was found to have individual nude photos of the entire school cheerleading squad in his desk, posing for him. I'm almost dead certain that one of my teachers was a pedophile, who spent quality time with his always-female student TAs in a storage room during class periods. I witnessed him several times whispering in her ear, assigning the class work, and then disappearing back there with her for as much as half an hour. One of my classmates also got a picture of the principal obviously hitting on a student. We were using 35+ year old textbooks in most classes and 15 year old computers, yet in 4 years they had the funds to completely replace the track twice, dig up and re-turf the football field, renovate the gymnasium, and build new tennis courts.
But you know what topped it all off? After Columbine, my principal did an interview with the local newspaper where he basically said that he thought it was the kids who get picked on that are the real problem, and need to be cracked down on.
