I think that's probably mildew, hot water kills it, while cold water doesn't.

Ah, that makes sense. I just misidentified the cause. Would explain why not everyone experiences it. It's quite damp around here.

In an unrelated vein, I had a pretty cool dream (involving a sealed demon that has to be periodically resealed, and a young witch that didn't know this because the old witch got sick and died) last night, which I'm almost certain came from a book or movie, but I have no idea what that source could have been.

Nope. There was only one SEiaC in that, and it wasn't any piddly little demon. Also it was unsealed and (poorly) resealed a few thousand years before the series starts. And everyone who knows about it already knows that it's breaking free.

Also far too powerful. The image I had was of something much like Tak (from Stephen King's Desperation and The Regulators.). Much lower power level.
