Because sensationalism. Also new year's eve always struck me as the more prominent day, with new year's day being just kind of tacked on. But that's probably because everybody's just too hung over that day.

So, my sister is super excited to get a new game and goes to the store I work at to buy it. It's my day off, luckily, so when she comes home she shows me the game and asks, "How do you open this?" The cashier had left the dang security box on the game. Queue thirty dang minutes of hammers and screwdrivers until we could tear it open to get her game.

I made fun of her for making me help her steal from the store I worked at. I still checked her receipt.

Saw one of the crappiest movies ever today. Supposedly, it was such a major flop back in the fifties that the director never directed again. Yet somehow it gained some recognition and was preserved in the Library of Congress in the 90s. Not sure how.

Ah yes, the politics and history of the City of London is hardly unique, but it is pretty exemplary. You see a lot of crazy traditional laws in the UK, and Europe in general actually.

The crazy complex election system was put in place to keep the guilds in power in the city and make it really, really, hard to infiltrate. The Kings and Queens of England made a lot of attempts to try to get control of the city. They really aren't kidding when they say it has a complicated history.
