The first thing that'd need to be established is that "distracting" is not good enough reason to ban clothing. I can understand stuff like huge afros if it gets in the way of other people's vision, but having a anti authoritarian shirt on is perfectly fine.


Also, you can't expect kids to defend themselves here. I don't think they legally can. Remember, much of the time, the parents are on the school's side. The oppressed don't really have the legal system to protect them.

Fine. Someone find a willing organization. Most suits like that are funded by them anyway. Maybe the ACLU, I don't know.

That'd be great (I do believe there are some children's rights groups out there, but they're not very big). However, it still underlines the basic problem: children don't have rights, and need adults to defend what few rights they do have.

I don't think we need people without an agenda saying they "banned prayer in schools" when they just banned teacher-led prayer.

This too. There were student led prayers at my school, and no one had a problem with it.

No one should be leading prayer at school. Students can pray if and when they want as long as it does not stop other students from doing what they are doing.

In a lot of cases, just being able to invoke rulings is enough to get a school off your back, especially if you ask them to ask the firm that handles their litigation about it. Any lawyer would advise a school against pissing on students rights that do exist, as they are very clearly defined and not difficult to present to a court successfully, especially as public schools are legally institutions of the state.

Rebellious high school moments? Uhhm...
Well, for me personally, I can think of two off the top of my head. One, my humanities teacher would always mark words in a spelling test incorrect for unnecessary capitalization. If I didn't capitalize them they looked messy, since each was on a different line. So I refused to capitalize my spelling words. YEAAAH FUCK THE SYSTEM

Oh, and I wouldn't wear the uniform's "navy blue shorts or pants" either. Because seriously, ugh.


Other than that, well, there were a few I guess... I can't remember any this early in the morning, though.

I... haven't had rebellious high school moments. My inner rebelliousness is pretty subdued in the first place, and what of it exists has been channeled into a desire to become Batman. I haven't really ran into such situations occurring either, so either my school is very calm or I just didn't notice as I have a tendency to stay away from the anti authority kids due to the correlation between them and stupidity + crudeness.

Heh. The only way I'm rebellious is trying to rebel against the idea of mortality. "Rage against the dying of the light" and all that. Lack of monetary funds is severely limiting this venture for me, though.
