My WTF for today... apparently my mom and dad got into a random argument while I was at school.  My mom had been in an awful mood and was blowing up about something dumb, and my dad apparently didn't try very hard to calm her down, so she started throwing things around in the kitchen, being the calm, rational person that she is.  Then my older brother, being the calm, rational person he is, decided to call 911, even though it far from being a life-endangering emergency.  So yeah, the operator had common sense to realize it was not an emergency and my brother is not the most rational person ever.

I wasn't present to see any of this transpire, but yeah I'll be staying downstairs tonight.

Maybe your brother did the right thing?  Major wake-up call for your mother, I would hope.  Being randomly destructive in a fit of self-absorbed wreckless abandon is an extreme behavior.  Sometimes the extreme appearance of an impartial third party is just the thing to shock that person into some more objective awareness of their behavior.  I've known people like that, though, so I understand she's more likely to just twist the blame away from her.

I've got a paper due in about three hours and haven't started it. I just watched myself as I made the conscious choice to put it off until the half-hour or so between eating and going to the class, and to continue browsing B12 for the next (completely free) half-hour. What the fuck is wrong with me?

Yesterdays newspaper:
"We keep you up to date on the mysterious disappearance of a local college student! We had a bit of a scare this morning, but neither of the bodies fished from the river since yesterday are the student in question. So the search continues!"

Note: Apparently who those bodies belonged to is relatively unimportant information.

Todays newspaper:
"We pulled the college student from the river today, grabbing the right body this time - turns out his body was chained and padlocked to a cement block. Police are leaving investigating all possibilities as to how this might have happened."


.... These are not reassuring daily updates. Apparently we not only have so many bodies to pull out of the river every day that we can take the ones we aren't looking for in stride, but the fact that he was padlocked to a cement block doesn't seem the slightest bit surprising.
