For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

whereas math is strictly numbers)
Oh hell no, it isn't. Math needs logic to exist. Deduction and induction are huge. If you don't have logic, you don't have mathematical properties. 1+1+1=2+1. 2+1=3. Therefore, 1+1+1=3. Math has been done. Logic is the foundation of math, from what I can see.

And actually, it's perfectly possible to do some thoroughly enjoyable mathematics without any numbers at all. Just like people confuse Computer Science with "coding" or Music with musical notation, the notation is not the field.

I realize that. And that was kind of a stupid example.

And then I reread the first statement, which agrees with my belief in math: Math is fun. Numbers are boring.

Y'know, this is why I don't read webcomics. Last time I said, "Okay just a couple more" it was like, 2AM. Now it's 5:36. :-[

Mmm, I can't defend my original assertion since it's literally just hearsay, so I'll believe ya :)

I like math. It teaches you things about numbers you never even tought about, but that you actually used all the time.

Math doesn't really teach you anything about numbers.

It teaches you about concepts, and patterns, and glorious, glorious discover of logical relations. Have any of you ever ever derived how to determine the area of a triangle in terms of length and width, or a proof for how any triangle, with it's base as the diameter of a circle, and it's third point falling on the arc of the circle, will ALWAYS define a right angle triangle? Hell, even getting to those questions is some enjoyable math.

Great fun, and neither of them require any numbers at all.

Numbers are mostly there to communicate with other people or to organize your thoughts. It is like saying written English
can teach you amazing things about letters. :P

We've been doing some stuff on the difference between the male and female brains in English, and I've realized something: My brain has more in common with the average female brain than it does with the average male brain. Which is weird, but also kinda cool. I'm abnormal! :D
