Terrorism should be described as taking action to incite mass terrorism/hysteria/paranoia. By reacting to terrorists, the terrorists win.

Why does everyone lose all sense of scale and reason when the word "terrorist" gets thrown around?
You forgot to stick cyber onto the front of that. People make even less sense with cybersecurity than normal security.
*Sigh*

You can almost hear the people lobbying for explosions upon the interwebz...

So what then? Should we make a new word? Tiny Terrorism for this? What does that scale have to do with it? Hell. This effected more people (although to a much lesser degree) then a lot of 'actual' terrorist acts. So why is it too small?

Probably learning that Warner brothers is making a Christmas story 2(is Hollywood trying to destroy what little credibility they have left?).

I always get confused between affect and effect.

Affect is a verb and effect is usually a noun, except when it's not.

Math affects people negatively, and math also effects pain in students! Math has an effect of making the mind go whoops.

..Is this right?

So you can affect something, or have an effect on it. I believe. There are some rather obscure uses of effect that I'm unaware of though.

They took some websites down, I think "terrorism" might be just a bit much.
Metal they took down websites which lots of small businesses depend on who are probably still freaking out right now since thats their lifeline. Terrorism does fit.
This is true, but those small businesses are also guilty of supporting SOPA simply by supporting a company (buying from == supporting) that does it. It's still "terrorism", but they're targeting the right audience. No innocents were hurt in this action :)

I'm sorry, but that is some of the worst "logic" I've ever seen. Not only are you making the assumption that all or even most of GoDaddy's customers knew of and supported their policies (as opposed to not knowing/not wanting or being able to transfer services), but you're also saying that it's perfectly fine for those same individuals to be punished for something they had no say in.

Yes and no. I believe that with every purchase you make you support the people you buy from. You buy from a company who used childlabour to manufacture your sneakers? You're guilty of supporting child labour yourself. It is impossible to know everything about every company in the entire production chain of every product you buy, but one can at least make an effort, and ignorance does not absolve one of sin. I will restate: This is my personal opinion, and therefore the businesses hurt were not "innocent bystanders" from my viewpoint.

However, using extralegal means to make your point, threatening people until they do what you want, is terrorism, and I did or do not condone, support, or encourage that. But, as far as one can "deserve" terrorism, they were just as "deserving" as GoDaddy itself.
