I'm hesitant to jump into the deep end with someone I've known for little more than a week when I've no experience otherwise and she's a rather clingy, attached sort of person, not to mention I didn't think of her that way, and I have a different gal in my sights. From was I can tell, I can only foresee things ending poorly.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Well...be careful, either way. Sometimes quick forming bonds are the strongest, sometimes they're the weakest. If you don't think of her as girlfriend material, just say, "Hey, I'm not ready for a relationship." Just, for her sake, don't leave her hanging.

it depends really, a chick went out with me even with her heart still out for her never ceasing crush for some guy that hates her (what went on in that background on college kinda made be feel bad for her but oh well, her choice)

try "hanging out" instead of a date and see how she reacts.

10 days isn't an unreasonable amount of time before asking someone out. But again, you're both young, and she might be taking the crush a bit too seriously. If you're uncomfortable, don't do it.

My WTF moment of the day came when I found myself enjoying the level of abstraction in coding assembly after spending the latter part of the last course coding straight up binary instructions. Really brain, assembly is pleasant? The fuck is wrong with you!
