Well, with the couple of surgeries that I've had, you get a local no matter how trivial it is, at the very least, a skin numbing agent. You won't feel a thing for about 6-8 hours, depending on your tolerance.

I wonder if this is true for the surgery I have to schedule? It's pretty minor...(and to prevent more minors from running around.)

I don't think anything could convince me to willingly put my hand in a machine that is designed to break it, even if I was anesthetized and the finger was useless unless re-broken. I'm actually nauseous just thinking about it.

Also, he may have been delirious and weakened by oxygen deprivation by the time he realized what was happening, if he realized it at all. You'd be surprised how quickly you get weak without a sufficient oxygen source.

What the hell? Even with a thick cardboard box, its entirely possible to gradualy work on a hole on it with your hands, its cardboard goddamnit, just lick your fingers and slowly work through the cardboard with your thumbs.
