The first one got me because I didn't realize it had an animation-type thing, but the second one just seemed kind of unsurprising. I guess I was just expecting it. Weird comic though.

The whole "long shot, slightly closer shot, slightly closer shot, sudden 'OMG IM IN UR FACE' zoom" thing seems to be popular in Asian horror. There's a scene in the original The Eye that did that really well (coupled with corresponding spike in audio volume) and creeped me the fuck out in the theater.

Also, that film starts off with a great jump scare troll move -- at one point in the opening credits (which are creepy as fuck themselves, rolling over hands pressing against a latex membrane) the film warps and distorts in such a way that it makes it look like the actual filmstrip broke. This tricks most people into turning around and looking at the projection booth. Then after several seconds of that, the film cuts to an extreme close-up of blood-red eyes on a black background. People looking at the projector see the color of the light coming out change, figure the film is okay, and then just as they turn around there's a bloodcurdling shriek in the audio and they see AAAGH WTF HUGE FREAKY EYES. It's that one-second delay between the eyes showing up and the shriek that is so awesome, because it shows it was meant to ambush people who had been turning around.

But warning people about jump scares goes contrary to the entire point of jump scares!

If at least 1 person doesn't die from a heart attack, it's a failure.

Oh that one. It's great; that can scare the crap out of pretty much anyone. 'Oh, yes, yes, I know you are easily scared, but it's just a comic strip, what's the worst that could happen?' *tehehe*
