Japanese is fond of importing an English phrase but only keeping the first one or two syllables of each word, then jamming the fragments together to form a new word (one that fits their syllabic structure better). It's very NewSpeakish.

For example, "personal computer" becomes "pasokon" in Japanese, and "air conditioning" becomes "eakon".

A fair bit of the cyberpunk "slang" in the 90's was derived of this idea of English -> Japanese -> English linguistic borrowing. Basically, the Japanese do what they always do...borrow something from the West and make it smaller and faster, then sell it back to us as something exciting and new  :P

Today I learned about a new, upcoming film called The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure. Here, have a look at the company's unapologetic defense of their...work:

Quote
THE OOGIELOVES IN THE BIG BALLOON ADVENTURE is a unique, interactive movie experience for young children and their families. It is a family musical that allows children to be children, encouraging them to sing and dance with their friends on screen and to help “move” the adventure along. From the opening title sequence until the final song and dance number, children are invited to take part in this fun and fantastic Oogielove adventure.

The film follows the Oogieloves - Goobie, Zoozie and Toofie - as they set out to find five magical golden balloons in time for their good friend Schluufyʼs surprise birthday party. With the help of their best friends, J. Edgar, Windy Window and Ruffy, and the support of many extraordinary new friends whom they meet along the way, the Oogieloves travel throughout all of beautiful LovelyLoveville on their search. They’ll need plenty of creative thinking, teamwork and enthusiasm to rescue these one-of-a-kind balloons in time for the big celebration. But when the Oogieloves work together with the audience, they can achieve anything!

Do we really need a bunch of three-year-olds bouncing up and down in the theater? Really? I can think of about a hundred ways that can go wrong off the top of my head.

Quote
Who are the Oogieloves?
The Oogieloves live in LovelyLoveville, simply the most beautiful and joy- filled place in the whole wide world. A place so lovely that, like a throwback to the 1950s, all of its inhabitants support and bring out the best in each other. From the quirky human beings to the goofy animals to the adventurous Oogieloves themselves, everyone in LovelyLoveville knows how to have a good time!

J. Edgar's 1950's, everyone: a place where everyone supports and brings out the best in one another.

 ???

I'm just going to let the trailer speak for itself. Someone pass the insulin.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

My little brother walks up with a toy knife and threatens to stab me in the face. I arm lock him and chop him in the chest, which was ineffective. We then stare at each other for 2 minutes.
I think TF2 has rubbed off on me...

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Well, I can't quite build up the force necessary to hurt him from my chair. I'd just end up smacking the arms of it, really hard.

Just make sure he doesn't start playing TF2 or you won't get a chance to hit him next time.

Be wary of younger brothers, they have the capacity to learn from their mistakes. One day, they'll eventually beat you.

This one is ADD, ADHD, and is most likely not going to be near my size. But he has the world's best dropkick.

My younger brother became a delinquent, so I don't have to worry about him anymore.
