I'm using internet explorer right now.

It's not bad.
Not great either, though.

It's adequate.
Like, If I had to use it for work or school or something I'd be like "I can live with this"

Do you know how many millions of man hours are spent every year making the internet "not that bad" for internet explorer?

I want there to be a concerted effort on the part of web-designers to say "Fuck IE. You don't get to use this website unless you switch."

Just so that people will finally drop that piece of crap. :U It'd be painful for a while, of course. But eventually worth it. :3

Same for DoJ. We're still on IE7. We miiiiight upgrade to IE8 sometime this year. Of course, that'll likely break compatibility with a host of internally-developed apps.

Most government agencies are horrifically outdated when it comes to their IT. We still use some mainframe systems with a VAX terminal interface, and my wife (who works for a state university) just recently had an application upgraded from DOS to Windows. It was a big deal.

My workplace is still stuck on this as well, and I don't see it changing.

So, the government is an archive of ancient computer systems that will probably break horribly if you lost compatibility for 16-bit programs?

IE was a bad browser. But for a while, it was also one of the best browsers, somehow, amazingly, and it did a lot to push the boundaries of what could be done with the web while other browsers where stagnating. I appreciate it's history, but for a long while now they've been lagging behind

The newest versions are usable, and almost good, and they at least don't need to be specially developed for.

But at this point, even Microsoft wants to punch the people who are still using less than IE8 - it's the equivalent to a company still using the first release of firefox in how frustrating it can be as a web designer.
