That's actually pretty common. False awakenings will generally become much more frequent in response to lucid dreaming. It is hypothesized that this is the brain's reaction to conscious thought in a subconscious state, possibly to trick the individual into believing that they are in normal reality and causing them to lose lucidity.

I think the meme exists just to make fun of how seriously Inception sold itself on being deep, to the point of implying that recursion is a foreign concept to the mass audience, and then how the general culture totally bought into it like
