I just got a 'game over' pop-up in my Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 game.

I played with money turned off! How the hell did I lose? I never lost a sand box game before >.>

The different parks have scenarios that you have to complete, e.g. 'Diamond Heights' required you to double the park's total monetary value within a certain time limit, a few years or something. And had one of the already-present roller coasters scripted to have a crash. :/

I played RCT1 a lot back when my OS supported it (won't even run in compatibility mode, now). I can remember a few already set rides that would eventually crash. Had to change the settings to prevent it, like making one big train instead of 2 smaller ones, or sometimes changing the layout of the track drastically, like with a water slide.

Later got RC3, but it never felt quite right.
