That's actually extremely common, if my PC is any example. I believe 'modified' refers to the last time the composition of the file was changed (i.e. you edited a picture, modified code, added to a text file - in other words, the last time the file was 'saved') while 'created' is the date of creation on your PC, not necessarily the date the original raw file was created. So the file was modified, then, a couple months later, a copy of the file was created on your PC.

So I was reading Cole Smithey's Toy Story 3 review and this line jumped out at me:

Andy's careless mom--whose sense of parental responsibility is nonexistent—"accidentally" tosses out the trash bag filled with Woody's pals on the curb.

I think he's projecting here, knowing who his mother is...

That's how Americans write the date. First the month, then the day, then the year.

Except for the US military, which tends to use day, month, year with the month as a 3-character text string, such as 18 MAY 2012.

Odd.

This was done to make it easier to coordinate with other NATO countries... of course, not everyone in NATO spells "May" the same way.

... most Americans, anyway. If someone doesn't specifically denote format, I generally write the date in dd/mm/yyyy. Partially because the habit stuck after a few years of French, partially because it confuses people a little. Haven't had any problems because of the habit... most business/government stuff I've ran into recognizes European format after a few seconds of looking at it funny :P

At least when I don't bust out the full Xth day of the Yth month, in the whateverth year of our lord spiel. Sometimes anno domini, it varies.

It gets pretty bad when you go to an American school that's in a NATO country, but is run by the military. And, to boot, some of the teachers are from places like Pakistan.

The only proper way to write a date is by order of significant digits. YYYY/MM/DD

No, no, you need to write the whole thing

May 27 2012
27 May 2012
2012 May 27
2012 27 May

All perfectly understandable!

Maybe no so much 27 2012 May, but it /still/ works.

My mother was driving down the road in a long line of traffic, just crawling along. She pulls up quickly when the line moves, and then all of a sudden there was a loud sound behind us. Looking in the rear view mirror, I  could see steam/smoke/whatever coming from behind the car behind us. Then I realized that the car behind us just got rear ended, and we avoided an accident (from the car behind us being pushed into us) by little more than a couple of seconds, by sheer luck.

So I go to the library to pick up a hold.  "V For Vendetta", specifically, which if you don't know is a strongly anti-establishment graphic novel which features the Guy Fawkes/Anonymous mask on the cover.  So I pick up my hold and continue browsing the library for anything interesting.  I take a look around...
Suddenly, COPS EVERYWHERE.  Seriously.  I counted about six hanging around the service desk, with more coming in.  So I took the sensible course of action, checking the book out at the self-service station, placing it in my bag, and leaving.

I still don't know what was going on.
