This. It does, however, take some time to do it right. Expect to be laying on your side for a good fifteen to twenty minutes at minimum. Still, it's very effective. Put a bit in your ear then wait for the sound to stop.

The risk is bubbles forming beneath the wax and putting pressure on the eardrum. It won't harm your eardrum itself any more than the sides of your ear canal.


Seriously, if you don't mind spending a few dozen bucks, go to a doctor and have them clean your ears. Safest, most effective way.

AFAIK Hydrogen Peroxide is fine. Even if it damages the ear drum membrane, it can heal itself. Oil's still good though.

My doc says it erodes the membrane weakening it when i got my ear infection meds last week and erosion means scarring.

Unbalances earwax balance, might make problems worse down the line. Plus risk of irritation and infection of the duct, which can be rather painful. And risk of damaging the inner ear should the membrane be pierced. So not too advisable I think. To each his own, though.

Really? That's a surprise to me. I was under the impression that because bacteria can blow up the eardrum and it can then heal naturally, it could take damage - although I guess scarring is a way of dealing with damage.

Yes but erosion it doesn't heal all of the way like scarring, look up erosion and gums.

Peroxide is definitely better than getting a burst eardrum from something bad in your ears. That fucking sucks. My ear was leaking pus for a week.
